November Events

Well, even though we’re officially in shoulder season, there is still plenty to draw one to Eastern Ontario during the oft blustery month of November.  Here’s a quick overview of the happenings for 2010:

Countylicious November 3-27

The Maker’s Hand November 5-7

Wassail Nov 20-22 and beyond through Dec 5

The British Empire Cheese Show Nov 28 (judging), Dec 2 (convention, open to public)

Frontenac Farmer’s Market Saturdays through end Dec, 9am-noon

What are your favourite events in Eastern Ontario this month?

Ivanhoe Receives Funding

Canada’s oldest cheese factory now has the cash it needs to set up a facility designed to help them pump out more eco-friendly products. Leona Dombrowsky, MPP for Prince Edward-Hastings, was treated to thunderous applause from Ivanhoe Cheese employees, after she announced the McGuinty government will award $377,000 in provincial funding to the Madoc cheese-maker.

Happy Cheese Day

Hi all!

For those of you who may not know it is officially National Cheese Day! Likely the lesser known holiday behind the United States ‘Inauguration Day’ but equally important, and quite frankly much tastier.

I’m delighted to welcome you to our new blog aka Cheese Business News (CBN for short). This is the first ‘official’ post!

We have re-vamped the site and look forward to it being the spot to find all your Cheese Start-up resources. A sharing portal for success stories and trials and tribulations. We invite comments on how we can better serve you!

So how will you be celebrating this day? Will you be combining the two and enjoying some tasty American Cheddar to show your patriotism to the red, white and blue or perhaps some Maple Dale? Or will you just enjoy a tasty slice of your favourite Artisanal brand from your local Farmer’s Market (might I suggest the Cape Vessey from Fifth Town). For the die hard patriots there is the Barick Obama available from Vermont’s Lazy Lady Farm.

Cape Vessey - Fifth Town

Me, I think I will perhaps nip down to Black River Cheese and grab a bag of their delicious Garlic Curd, in appreciation to a food that has earned it’s own slice of our yearly calendar.

Happy Cheese Day!
